Writing Letters to
the Editor
Writing a letter to the Editor of your local newspaper allows you to share your voice and educate others on important issues. A well-written letter can inspire action against anti-choice legislation.
Here are some tips for writing an effective letter (thanks to Chelsea’s Fund and the ACLU):
Share your opinion and relevant facts but always cite sources.
Adhere to the newspaper's word limit and consider referencing specific articles.
Focus on one topic for clarity.
Personalize your letter with personal stories.
Encourage readers to take action, such as contacting Legislators..

Writing to Officials
Writing letters to elected officials is a powerful way to share your views and inform them on issues.
For an effective letter:
Be honest and factual, citing sources and avoiding plagiarism.
Be courteous; respectful language fosters dialogue.
Keep it brief—no more than one page and focused on a single issue.
Clearly state who you are, what you want, and why, referencing specific bills or policies.
Support your position with two or three key points.
Personalize with your own story to make a stronger impact.
Include your name and city to show you're a constituent.
Always proofread before sending.
